Overview
In January 2023, Grayscale wanted to expand their product line to bring the on-site hiring manager of their high-volume hiring customers into the conversations that recruiters were having with job candidates, in an effort to reduce the time-to-hire for enterprise clients.
The problem
Recruiters often operate as a liaison between prospective job candidates and the hiring manager; bringing the hiring manager into the conversation early on, would help in reducing the time-to-hireOn-site managers for high-volume hiring organizations are rarely by their computers throughout their day and often reserve time to complete administrative tasks during set hours or, in some cases, after hours. Therefore, Grayscale’s current web application would help, but only for those hiring managers that have constant access to their desktop throughout their day; bringing that same experience to their mobile devices, however, would be the elevated experience that could truly streamline their workflow.
Mapping the journey
Working with the CEO and a product manager, we approached the research phase with a goal of better understanding the role of the on-site manager in the recruiting workflow and some of their pain points along the way.
We collected our findings into an affinity map to better synthesize the themes of work we were discovering during our interviews.
We also incorporated quantitative data tracked from customer requests into the map. This provided a nice balance between what we were hearing from customers and what the data was telling us.
Exploration
We pursued designing an experience that felt familiar to our current product, while highlighting only the areas which a hiring manager would find the most useful. We also reviewed areas of the current experience that could be improved upon and merged back into the main product as feature enhancements.
